THE SEVEN REDEMPTIVE NAMES OF GOD.
In Exodus 3:13 – 15 Then Moses said to God, "If I come to
the people of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to
you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' what shall I say to them?" God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM."
And he said, "Say this to the people of
In Hebrew “I AM THAT I AM” is EHEYEH ASHER EHEYEH” and this speaks of
the SELF EXISTANT ONE, the Eternal, the ONE who always has been and always will
be, the Ever – Present and Living One.
It is equivalent to JEHOVAH THE ETERNAL.
God the Creator, Upholder and Moral Governor of the universe is Elohim or in other words GOD. The covenant God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God in whom
l say their present strength and their hope for their
future existence is EL SHADAI the GOD ALMIGHTY.
But the GOD of REVELATION and GRACE, dwelling with His people, guiding
them and delivering them, as well as receiving their worship is JEHOVAH.
As far back as Gen 4:26 people began to call on the Name of the
Lord.
‘To Seth also a son was born, and he
called his name Enosh. At that time people began to
call upon the name of the LORD.’ (JEHOVAH)
The name JEHOVAH is spoken strictly in
the redemptive term of the Name of God and also as the ONE who reveals Himself
and therefore the following seven Names of God point to a continues and
increasing self-revelation of who God is.
These seven compound Names of God,
reveal God as God Himself meeting every need of man, from the fall of Adam and
Eve and Names point toward
1. Jehovah-SHAMMAH
“The
circumference of the city shall be 18,000 cubits. And the name of the city from
that time on shall be, The LORD is there." Ezek 48:35
I AM there or I AM present,
REVEALS TO US THAT God has a redemptive plan to save us and be with us. In this we can continually enjoy His presence,
weather on the highest mountain during the greatest exploits or during the
darkest deepest valleys of ones life – you can enjoy the presence of Jehovah-SHAMMAH
2. Jehovah-SHALOM
“Then
Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and called it, The LORD is Peace. To
this day it still stands at Ophrah, which belongs to
the Abiezrites.” Judges
6:24
Jesus said ‘My peace I give
to you, not as the world gives..’ We can experience the PEACE of GOD through
the darkest hours of the soul and the amazing highs of life. God said “I AM
your peace.” The secret is to get into
the presence of God and enjoy the Peace of God.
Jehovah-SHAMMAH
will never leave or forsake you, but it is easy for us as a
people to apply the saying ‘out of sight out of mind’ With this mindset, we can easily loose the
security of the PEACE of GOD in our lives.
The problem is never that the PEACE of GOD has departed, the problem is,
that the people have forsaken the presence of GOD (Jehovah-SHAMMAH) and lost
the PEACE of GOD.
3.
Jehovah-RA-AH
“The
LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. “ Psalm 23:1
John writes that his joy is
complete because the WORD of GOD that was from the beginning (1 John 1:1) has
appeared to us.
The I AM your SHEPHERD will
direct my path and cause my feet to not stumble.
The I AM your SHEPHERD will
direct your steps and cause all your plans to prosper.
The I AM your shepherd and will
lead you in paths of righteousness and bless the works of your hands.
For this reason we can say
with John ‘our joy is complete’
4. Jehovah-JIREH
So
Abraham called the name of that place, "The LORD will provide"; as it is said to
this day, "On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided." Gen 22:14
The word of God says that
before the foundations of the world he was slain for you and me. Jesus paid the price and we can walk
free. Now this statement is often used
in the context of salvation, and it is correctly used in that context. But the
Name of God, Jehovah-JIREH
simply means God will provide, or in another form ‘I AM your provider’
If you have any need,
physical, spiritual or in the soul, find out what is the perspective of God on
the issue and you will see the Provider Jehovah JIREH meet all your needs
according to His riches in Glory.
5. Jehovah- NISSI
Ex. 17: 15 “And Moses built an
altar and called the name of it, The LORD is my banner,”
The
Lord is your banner and The Lord is your Victor and the Lord is your Captain
and above all JEHOVAH says I AM. God
does not I was or I am going to be. God
says “I AM YOUR BANNER”
During times of conflict and war. When it seems like the whole
camp of the enemy is thrown at you, remember, that when Christ died He
triumphed over death and rose from the Grave with the keys of life and death in
His hands. Then Christ came and gave to
us the Keys of the
6. Jehovah-TSIDKENU
Jer 23:6 In his days
God becomes our
righteousness by bearing our sins on the cross; and giving us His
righteousness. The meaning of the word
righteousness is to have FEAR for GOD. A fear of reverence and worship. God is a Holy God and we
can be secure in Him and no danger will come near our dwelling if we walk in
the Fear of God. The above scripture
says ‘
7. Jehovah-RAPHA
Ex 15;26 saying, "If you
will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is
right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes,
I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am
the LORD, your healer."
Before the foundations of
the earth, Christ was slain for you and I, and the reason for this is that man
does not have the ability in Himself to save himself from life or death.
Psa 44:2 - 4 you with your own hand
drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but
them you set free; for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did
their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of
your face, for you delighted in them. You are my King, O God; ordain salvation
for Jacob!
Jehovah-Rapha delights to heal you in body soul and spirit. Healing
is for every aspect of life and the I AM your HEALER
will answer you as you call on Him.
It
is interesting to see that in Psalm 23 all seven of the redemptive Names of
Jehovah are present.
Jehovah-SHAMMAH ‘The
Lord ever-present’
Vs;
4 I
will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort
me
Jehovah-SHALOM ‘The Lord our PEACE’
Vs;
2 He
makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
Jehovah-RA-AH ‘The
Lord my SHEPHERD’
Vs;1 The LORD is my
shepherd;
Jehovah-JIREH ‘The Lord will PROVIDE’
Vs.
1 I
shall not want.
Jehovah-
NISSI ‘The Lord our BANNER’
Vs;5 You prepare a
table before me in the presence of my enemies.
Jehovah-TSIDKENU ‘The Lord our RIGHTOUSNESS’
Vs;3 He leads me in
paths of righteousness.
Jehovah-RAPHA ‘The Lord our HEALER’
Vs;3 He restores my
soul
How great is our God and how awesome is
He. He holds the oceans in the palm of
His Hand and the earth is His foot stool. He knows each star by name, and yet
Jehovah of the universe, the God of all created and not created, has chosen to
reveal Himself to you and me.
We can only recite what Paul says to
Timothy in about AD 64.
1 Timothy 1;17
“NOW UNTO THE KING ETERNAL,
IMMORTAL, INVISIBLE, THE ONLY WISE GOD, BE HONOUR AND GLORY FOR EVER AND EVER.
AMEN”
