The African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) is often seen by the rivers, lakes and shores of Africa, south of the Sahara. It can be seen sitting high up in tall trees from where it views the river, lake or coastline which is its territory.

As its name suggests, the main diet consists of fish. The eagles are commonly found in pairs (in and out of mating season) and catch fish ( normally Cat Fish/Lung Fish) up to 1 kg in weight but this can increase to 3 kg. The heavier fish are dragged along the surface of the water to shore.

The distinctive call of the African Fish Eagle is sometimes referred to as "The Voice of Africa".
